Be Leery of Colors
While most sites do everything they can to provide accurate photos, posting photos of furniture online can distort the true colors of the furniture. Darker furniture in particular, such as the espresso color popular with modern furniture designs, tends to look lighter online. Also, different finishes are going to have different sheens which may not be accurately depicted in photos.
Home Gallery Stores offers thousands of products on our website. We do all that we can to provide the most accurate and complete product information. Home Gallery Stores is responsible to deliver all goods up to the Manufacturer’s Standards and Tolerances.
All items on our site are represented to the best of our ability. Customer’s purchasing online should be aware that there are several reasons an item may look different online than in person. Computer screens can distort color. Studio lighting is often very different from environmental or home lighting. Changes in production and/or factories can affect minor design features and the appearance of fabrics and/or finishes. Sunlight can fade or affect wood over time. Everyone interprets wood species, color descriptions, and color differently. For all these reasons, customers purchasing online should expect variation from the appearance of the item on our website to the appearance of the item in their home.
Many manufacturers use distressing techniques to enhance the character and appeal of furniture. While many items with distressing are factory produced, most distressing techniques are applied by hand and will vary in type, frequency, and lightness/heaviness from one piece to the next. The unique nature of distressing is what makes each piece one-of-a-kind. Customers purchasing goods with distressing should expect the item delivered to their home to be different from the items pictured on our website.
Please be aware that the color of the finish shown in online pictures may or may not be an accurate depiction of the actual finish of the piece of furniture. There are a number of factors that cause this issue.
The settings on computer monitors vary from one computer to the next.
There is no way for us to know if the color you are seeing from your computer is the same color we are seeing from our offices at Home Gallery Stores.
There will always be a slight variance in finish from one production batch to the next.
Usually this part is undetectable, but occasionally not. Once you receive the furniture in your home, the finish will also look different depending on the lighting of the room it’s going in. Even the angle that a light is pointed at a piece of furniture can cause a color appearance variation. All of these finish issues are inherent in the furniture industry as a whole. You must consider this when ordering furniture from the internet, as well as when ordering furniture from a store. Almost all store floor samples are faded from the original finish. Even when the store has a piece of furniture in stock, the one from their warehouse is unlikely to be an exact match. Also, the furniture in your house has faded some too. So even if you are trying to add pieces to your existing furniture collection, the finish may differ a bit due to the fading. All stained finishes fade over time. Some natural finishes, such as natural cherry, may even get darker over time. In other words, it is very difficult to identify an exact color match when buying furniture.
This happens no matter what the color of the finish is. Do not let the name of the finish fool you. Everyone interprets finishes in different ways. There are thousands of variations of a “white” finish, and 99% of the time, the white finish you are looking at will not be a “true white.” Look at a piece of white computer printer paper. In most cases, this is not what you are getting. Just like at your local hardware store you have to look through countless paint samples to find the “white” paint color that you want, furniture finishes vary and are very unlikely to be an exact match for something you already have in your home. The same rules go for wood finishes. Different brands call different finishes “Cherry” or “Oak” or “Mahogany” or “Espresso”.
Wood Furniture Care Tips
You have finally gotten that new dining set you have been waiting and saving up for? Delivery guys left you with a great new look. So, how do you keep it in good shape and looking good? Here is a basic guide to get the most out of your new wood furniture investment. Taking care of your furniture will make it last a lifetime.
A Note About Different Finishes
Be careful using cleaners not specifically meant to be used on wood. Non wood cleaners that used to not harm finishes can now strip the newer finishes or damage them. Stick to products meant for wood for cleaning and overall care. Also keep in mind that heat and cold wet drinks will affect new finishes now more than ever as a result of the new chemicals used in the new finishes. Be careful when setting a hot plate or cold drink on your furniture. Use coasters and place mats, otherwise you will leave white stains that are difficult or impossible to remove. Whenever possible buy green furniture, it's good for the environment to get furniture that is made from sustainable wood resources. Some finishes are meant to be more of a satin finish, and others are a high gloss type. Test out your polish or wax on a hidden area to make sure it does leave a film or look funny after application.
Spray Waxes and Polishes
Use a general dusting type product for day to day dusting of your dining room furniture. Using a wax or polish every time can lead to a buildup and eventually dull the overall finish. Once a month or so use a good liquid wood polish to bring out the shine.
