Howard Miller was taught the art of clockmaking by his father and eventually became known as a leading innovator in creating beautiful timepieces for the home. Originally, Howard Miller focused on chiming wall clocks and mantel clocks but in the 1960s, grandfather clocks became the main product and eventually the company earned the title of ‟World’s Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer“. These original Howard Miller designs are desirable collector’s pieces because of their beauty and inventiveness of the time. Today, Howard Miller makes a variety of clocks from alarm clocks to mantel clocks to floor clocks to maritime and weather station clocks. All of the clocks produced today are made to the same high quality standards as Howard Miller’s original designs. In 1989, Howard Miller expanded their offerings to include curio cabinets, constructed of glass and hardwoods, which are made with the same expert craftsmanship as their clocks. With the success of the curio cabinets, Howard Miller decided to produce furnishings for the entire home, including bookcases, bars, entertainment center, tables, and wine storage. The company continued to grow and acquired The Hekman Furniture Company, The Woodmark Company and the Kieninger Company of Germany as a way to give customers choices casegoods and upholstery items for the entire home.
